Native American Prophecy

Sun Bear roams the globe, disregarding boundaries, open to the gusts of spirit wind that guide him and his wife, Jaya. They speak of the need for awareness of and preparation for changing planetary conditions that burn on our doorsteps. We talked to Sun Bear and Jaya in Nevada. There was an urgency in their voices from the moment we greeted each other.  

SB: Have you read Black Dawn, Bright Day?

MM: Yes. I was impressed by your directness and extensive prophecies.

SB: Twelve years ago when people were concerned about the Russians, I was telling them that they needed to look at the Muslim nations. This has been a very deep part of what was shown me. There is also a 450 year old Iroquois prophecy that describes the wrestling of serpents as the ultimate, major situation before a time of peace and harmony. The white serpent and red serpent wrestle until they exhaust their resources. The white is the United States and the red serpent is Russia. Then the black serpent would emerge and defeat both the white and red serpent.

MM: That must be the oil.

SB: Russia was defeated in Afghanistan by the Muslim nations and the United States is about to suffer a major defeat, whether or not they win, because 40% of the world’s oil supply will be cut off. It will be a very hectic time.

It has been a great sadness to me how much destruction of the natural environment and the oceans occurred as a result of the last Gulf war between Iran and Iraq. It is not just human suffering but suffering and destruction of whole geographic areas. People there are dependent on the Persian Gulf and surrounding areas for food supplies from that ocean, which is now completely dead.

MM: You mention in your book that the Indian Ocean is the most polluted.

SB: Yes. The other one is the North Sea. It is now choked out and almost totally dead. People need to be aware. I just came back from Mexico. In Mexico City, ten million people suffer from pollution so bad that three out of five experience respiratory illness, memory loss, inability to concentrate and other mental and emotional effects. People are dying at the rate of 300 a week from the pollution alone. The water system is so contaminated in Vera Cruz and other places, they have dysentery and related diseases. Their whole system has broken down and they are having a major drought which is affecting them very seriously. Southern California will begin extreme water rationing, as they are in their sixth year of drought.

This is all part of the Indian prophecies – what they call Earth changes – that say a time will come when one area will be too wet and another too dry, another place too hot and another too cold, a time when the Earth Mother will withhold her increase. For the last thirty years, I have been telling people this was coming. Here I am in Las Vegas and we just had a small earthquake.

We have gotten completely out of balance with the Earth. I just read in the paper that someone recently shot five wild horses in the state of Washington just for the sake of killing them. Last year in Nevada, someone killed 100 wild mustangs in a senseless slaughter. It continues to happen. It represents the imbalance of humans in relation to the rest of creation. This is what is causing the destruction. Man does not have enough sense of responsibility to the Earth. The native people believe humans are protectors and keepers of the Earth Mother, that we have to come back to the sacred understanding that all things are one. I strongly recommend everyone stay informed as to what has happened and what is going to happen.

Prior to Black Dawn, Bright Day, I wrote a book called Medicine Wheel – Earth Astrology. It is based on a vision I had in 1979 dealing with restoring the ancient sacred medicine wheels to the land.

MM: Does that correspond to the sacred sites?

SB: There were some 20,000 medicine wheels across the continental United States and Canada – stone circles placed by native peoples for winter solstice, summer solstice, equinox and for all other primary ceremonies. A vision showed me a circle of stones with an inner circle on top of a hill. What I thought were animals coming to the circle were human beings in animal costumes. A voice in the middle of them said, “Now has come the time for the return of the medicine wheels. Now has come the time for the healing of the Earth Mother.”

In 1979 – I was told by the Spirit that this would happen – circles in wheat fields started appearing on the earth. These crop circles first appeared near Stonehenge, which is a sacred medicine wheel, and now they’re showing up in Canada, the U.S., Japan and France. I was told that if humans did not listen, the Earth itself would speak. These circles are caused by powerful spirit beings trying to show us how to come back into harmony with the Earth. At first the circles would disappear, but now they appear in sequences of four with other patterns alongside.

MM: Some people say these are coded messages left by extraterrestrials.

SB: They are sacred teachers from other parts of the universe, trying to warn and teach those people who are willing to open up to them. The same symbols you see there are in some ancient pictographs and writings found in historic ruins. These are symbols that represent the holiness of all that is and the spiritual balance that humans must come back to. If you talk ecology, you have to talk sacred circle. Everything has the same right to the planet as we humans – the insects, grass, plants, winged ones, swimmers, those that walk on four legs.

EARTH HARMONY CEREMONY

Go somewhere where you can be in close communion with the Earth.
Create with stick or stone, or demarcate in your mind’s eye, a medicine wheel upon the ground, containing the four directions – East, West, North and South. You may also choose to do it indoors.
At each direction, make an offering of your choice.
It could be corn meal or tobacco.
If you use a peace pipe, don’t inhale the smoke.
Also make an offering to the Earth Mother and the Creator Spirit,
Whose direction is the very center.
Pray to the Spirits to assist you in your effort to become balanced and to walk in a sacred manner.
Pray for all individuals and peoples that wish to be helped.
Finally, say a “thank you” prayer. Feel free to use words that are your very own and that come from your heart.
Observe qualities of peace and balance in every step you take throughout the day.

          In the Southwest there were whole cities in ancient times – 20,000 people in the Lost City in Nevada and in Chaco Canyon, New Mexico. They went out of balance with the Earth there, not doing the ceremonies any more. The land dried up and they migrated to Mexico and became the Aztecs.

Before any major changes happen on Earth, there have always been warnings. We are told there will be three years of such major drought and unrest that there will be very little food produced upon the Earth. I see what is happening in the Middle East and I am told this will worsen between 1993 and 1997, with a nuclear holocaust there, if not before. Pakistan has the A-bomb. They are willing to loan it to Iraq if necessary. We need to be very aware.

The U.S., Germany and Japan are very dependent upon fossil fuel for survival. Knocking out 40% of the oil, even if it may be restored, is going to create economic chaos in many areas. I am telling people that the only investment at this time that is of any value is land containing water, preferably a natural supply, capable of producing food. I am teaching and helping people to be more self-sufficient and in harmony with earth again.

MM: I understand you hold apprenticeship programs.

SB: Yes. A vision showed me standing on a hillside. The Earth was dark and when I pointed my finger I saw many sizes, shapes and colors of light on the land. Spirit said these were people coming to me to study and learn, becoming bright lights in the universe during the Earth changes, acting as teachers and healers.

So I set up this ten-day, intensive program that people can come to. I teach them all I can in that time period: how to work with the sweat lodge, how to work with the pipe, how to work with the Thunderbeings to call in the rains-something they need in Southern California right now – and the other ceremonies that I do. I teach how to plant a garden, how to harvest food. Some have studied with me for eight years. The goal is to become powerful enough to deal with the world as it is and without fear. Sun Bear advocates the storing of dehydrated foods and other provisions.

MM: Do you agree with Jose Arguelles’ prediction that it is important for people to clean up their own act by 1992 so they can deal with the social and geologic cleansings and shifts in 1992-97?

SB: Yes, I pretty much agree with that. During the Harmonic Convergence in 1987, I was invited down to Oaxaca, Mexico, to the Tule tree there, by Maya and Aztec spiritual people to do ceremonies. In one of the dreams, pieces were falling from the sky. People would catch them and some would smile and dance and others would be totally frightened. Spirit said that this was new knowledge coming in at this time. The happy people were those who saw the beginning of new things, and the frightened ones were those who saw the ending of their system.

Right now you are looking at Russia begging for grain. They need all the food they can get, with near starvation in many areas there. Chad and many countries in Africa are at starvation. Egypt is in nine years of drought. We are coming into the transition that Spirit says is the great dying-off period.

MM: I have heard that portions of countries in Africa, namely Niger and Zambia, have already been wiped out by AIDS.

SB: That is correct. Also, these areas are starving.

MM: Much of this news doesn’t come through our television sets. Is searching and reaching out for metaphysical knowledge relevant to the need to learn survival skills?

SB: I feel that during this time of major Earth changes there is also a time of great knowledge coming in. People are going to have to reach out for new knowledge and for old knowledge. Much of the ancient knowledge was destroyed due to the Muslim and Christian worlds wanting to dominate. In Alexandria, Egypt, they destroyed some 700,000 volumes of ancient teachings. Catholic padres destroyed thousands of volumes of Mayan teachings and now some of this needed knowledge is coming up. Here is another aftershock, as we speak.

MM: It has been said that a good prophecy doesn’t happen if people do something about it.

SB: Many prophecies are warnings. There are small ones I don’t worry as much about. Let me give you an example. I was driving through the Midwest and my partner and I were hungry. We pulled in front of a restaurant in Illinois. I got out of the car and told my partner I didn’t feel good about this place. We went down the road another thirty-five miles and the town we had just left was flattened by a tornado. If you listen to prophecies and make the necessary changes, you are not affected.

Just the same, in dreams I was told that Russia would be struck with major earthquakes before it happened, and the same about Iran. I have maps in my book to let people know what areas are and are not safe.

MM: What about the belief that such outer Earth manifestations are so very closely linked with the inner psyche of humans? Some teachings say that if you bridge the gap within yourself, your mind, emotions and spirit, this will help the bridging of the gaps between the energies on the planet so that the changes won’t be as drastic.

SB: I believe that is true to some degree. The human energies respond to the Earth energies or the Earth energies respond to the human energies. There is a connection there.

MM: Your book states that taking responsibility for the life you lead and reclaiming your power is one of the basic things you can do. Another is learning to respect and work in harmony with Mother Earth. What is a third main ingredient?

SB: The main ingredients are to come into balance within yourself to acknowledge that these things are happening and that it is necessary for them to happen for the survival of the planet. Realize that you can be there to help to restore the balance and help those humans that want to be helped. The third ingredient, then, would be preparing to help other people.
