December 31st
ushering in Peace on Earth through positive energy
an interview with John Price
By REV. DR. PATRICK J. HARBULA
December 31st at 12 noon, Greenwich Mean Time, is the date of a worldwide peace meditation which John Price’s book The Planetary Commission has proposed. It is anticipated that 50 million people will actually participate in this visionary endeavor and that another 500 million will assent to it.
MM: What is the purpose of The Planetary Commission?
JP: To reverse the negative forcefield in the race mind, to bring about a critical mass of positive spiritual energy, and to usher in a new age of peace on earth.
MM: Why December 31st, 1986?
JP: My wife, Jan, and I were told in meditation that on that particular day a completely different alignment of energy would be possible, enabling us to penetrate the collective unconscious more than any on other day of the year. We chose noon Greenwich Mean Time because that is the time that encompasses all the time zones in the world in one twenty-four hour period.
MM: What was the response to the publication of The Planetary Commission?
JP: We first publicly announced The Planetary Commission on January 1, 1984, at a Church of Religious Science in Austin, Texas. On February 4, we were at the Chapel of Light in Lake Whitney near Dallas and again took the opportunity to introduce The Planetary Commission.
During our talk, a man in the third row from the back jumped up, fell out of his chair and let out a cry. He got up and sat down in his chair again. After the service, he came up and said, “I have to share something with you.”
He identified himself as an Episcopal priest. On Halloween night in 1977, he was pronounced dead. He was killed-beaten to death, every bone in his body broken. He remembered going into an arena of light. “I counted forty-seven light beings in the arena talking about me,” he said.
“As I was listening to them, the corner of my eye caught this huge white being walking into the arena. This huge pillar of light walked up to me and said, ‘You must go back.’ I said, ‘I can’t, it will hurt.’ The being said, ‘You must, because 1987 is going to be a critical year for your planet and I want you to go back and begin to spread the word for a massive prayer for December 31, 1986.’”
The priest and I both sat there with tears in our eyes. He said, “You have confirmed what I have been through.” And I said, “No, you have confirmed what Jan and I have experienced.”
MM: What inspired The Planetary Commission?
JP: It was a very slow process of evolutionary understanding. I was going to write a book on individual improvement. I kept getting the over shadowing – or a pressing – to expand it to world service. Later we began contemplating and meditating on what we could do for the world, and thoughts began coming through which led to The Planetary Commission. I wish I could say there was a bolt of lightening that came down and revealed the message, but the process was one of feeling, listening, meditating and writing.
But there was a difficult time later when we closed ourselves up. We would read a headline in a newspaper and become very emotionally involved. That fear vibration shut down what we had been receiving in meditation. One day we were driving in our car, and written on the windshield were the words The Planetary Commission. Spirit had to find a way to get our attention, so it used a phenomena. I use the expression, it was written on the windshield, but it wasn’t really written – I saw it on the windshield. We stopped the car and I said, “We are going to form a Planetary Commission. There will be no organization, no structure. We’re not going to raise any money or publicize it. It’s just going to be a free-flowing idea, a grass-roots movement that will spread like wildfire.”
People around the world have run with the idea. Others have made it a media event, and that’s fine. When Robert Hans from San Diego first called with the idea that he wanted to put 50 thousand people in the stadium, I thought, “I don’t know if I like that or not.” Then I said, “Sure, why not? If people want to get together to share, that’s great.”
Every time someone called with an idea, rather than think about it, I would say, “Go do it. That’s your idea, do your own thing.” Jan and I really began stepping back. In 1984 we thought that Quartus or Jan and I being associated with the Planetary Commission might take something away from it. We wanted to let it just be the Planetary Commission. We told people to change the words of the meditation if they didn’t find them appropriate, or to use the Lord’s Prayer, or whatever else they might want to choose.
If people don’t want to call it the Planetary Commission, they can come up with another name for it. That’s why it has been called The World Instant of Cooperation and World Peace Day. What difference does it make? We’re all working under the same umbrella.
MM: That leads to my next question. What other groups play an important role in the December 31st event?
JP: Barbara Marx Hubbard came up with the name World Instant of Cooperation. A lot of people that are not familiar with Barbara have used that term because it is less metaphysical. There are also The Future Is Now and The World Peace Commission. The name doesn’t really matter as long as we come together in spirit at noon Greenwich Mean Time.
We are also working with groups such as Peace the 21st in Canada, Japan’s Society of Prayer for World Peace and Million Minutes of Peace. Lucis Trust in New York is supporting the event, and the Association for Research and Enlightenment. (A.R.E.) founded by Edgar Cayce is involved. Nearly every major spiritual and peace group we know of is taking part in the event.
MM: How would you describe the energy that is motivating this project?
JP: It is a new evolutionary energy, from our perspective, which began coming into the planet right after World War II. It’s lighter, it’s finer. There’s much more love involved with it. David Spangler said there was a quantum leap in that energy, in 1967. It took another great leap, in 1975 and 1976, which has given us the momentum for 1986. It’s the Christ energy, to use a religious term. From another perspective, it’s the unconditional love energy. The planet is going to change. We are all going to change. The consciousness is changing. There is nothing we can do about it. It is happening.
If you look at some of the ancient scrolls-the esoteric teachings, the ancient wisdom-they all point in mathematical symbols to this time on the planet. The predictions of Nostradamus don’t have to be interpreted as catastrophic-that this is the end of the world. They are based on consciousness as it existed at that time.
If we could find 500 million people consenting to a healing of the planet, then we could get a core of 50 million that would be active participants with a high spiritual consciousness. In our earlier research for the book Super-beings, we were told by two or three people, that we considered very evolved, that there are 50 million people on the planet today that have very high awakened consciousnesses. So, we said, “Okay, let’s get them all.”
MM: To use Barbara Marx Hubbard’s term resonating core, we’re talking about a core group of 50 million people.
JP: About two years ago we stopped counting the signed commitments. They came in bags, sometimes on scrolls with hundreds of names. We decided not to be concerned with numbers.
From Pat Weeks of the Human Unity Institute we have a ballpark figure of about 200 million so far and project that we will reach the goal. We know the figures will be there.
MM: Even though this event is designed to unite all peoples of all faiths in a unified spiritual effort, there has been some resistance or concern from certain fundamentalist religious groups.
JP: Yes, there has. I haven’t talked to them as to why they are opposed to it, but many of them are very suspicious of what the new age movements are doing. Yet, groups in every single religious classification in the world have responded. We have commitments by some fundamentalists, who responded from a Christian radio talk show. They want peace!
We must find our points of agreement. We’re not trying to stir up any waters. We want to invite everyone who wants to be a part to do so.
Outside this country we have received a letter from the Asian Buddhists. There are numbers of Hindu organizations participating. Most of the people on the list for this country are new thought, but there are quite a few that don’t consider themselves new thought at all. We are not promoting this as a new age-type idea. It is a universal and planetary idea. Those who want to participate do so in a feeling of love, peace and joy. They’re the ones who are going to do it.
Pat Weeks told us about a former US Senator who is in contact with a member of the Russian Politburo. The Russian said about the event, “Don’t think we’re going to make this a religious ceremony, no. But I will guarantee you that over 100 million Russians will Think Peace on December 31, 1986.”
MM: If we include this statement in our totals we have 300 million commitments to this date! How do you see the follow up to December 31? What happens after the quantum leap?
JP: Number one, we’re not going to stop, or disband the operations of Planetary Commission or World Instant of Cooperation. We are going to continue with monthly meditations and prayers, and to release spiritual energies at the end of each month.
The world is moving into a new level of spiritual consciousness. Nothing is going to be changed in a twinkling of the eye. As the old breaks way the new comes in, but it won’t happen over-night. There will be a tremendous breakthrough in science in the spring and summer. More and more religions are coming together in a sense of brotherhood. We see a breakdown in resistance from extremists; they will become softer and more open to ideas of love and peace. The world is coming to a place of Oneness.
Once someone told me, “Boy, are you naïve to think that the people of the world are ever going to agree on anything.” I said, “I have no hope for the planet if that’s the case. Our very survival is at stake.” We’ve got to get rid of the vested interests. If the people here today [Church of Religious Science of Huntington Beach, California] are willing to give up everything in their life that’s counter-productive to peace, then I think anyone else in the world can do it. We’re ordinary people who can see the possibilities of having peace on earth.
MM: What future do you see for our planet?
JP: According to the teachings of the Hopi Indians “one thousand sun danced enlightened teachers” will totally awaken in their dream/mind bodies. On August 17, 1987, the winged wheels will begin to turn to dance once again, and when they do, the rainbow lights will be seen in dreams all over the world. those rainbow-light dreams will awaken the rest of humanity.
People who are moving toward a spiritual consciousness will dramatically open up their spinning wheels, or chakras. Their dream, or etheric, bodies will become very active and through their consciousness this awakening will spread to other like souls around the world. This very same date marks the end of the Aztec calendar. There is no explanation; the calendar ran for thousands of years and then just stops on August 17, 1987.
Consuella Newton, a modern prophet, found a Hopi prophesy that said in the year two thousand we would achieve peace on earth. Another very spiritually evolved man claimed that by the year 2013 the entire planet would be in total harmony-not just the absence of war, but total harmony between all the kingdoms of nature, with everything working together, perfectly balanced.
MM: You are very clear on your purpose and your direction in life. What advice would you offer to those who are seeking to understand their purpose?
JP: For us it wasn’t easy. I was president of an advertising agency. The further we moved along the spiritual path, the worse things got in my professional life. That was just repositioning me to where I was supposed to be. It was good training for what I was to do later. I meditated and contemplated almost day and night to understand who we are, why we are here, God and the laws of the universe. One’s own truth has to be realized because that is the basis for how to live one’s life.
The most important thing is to learn to trust the teacher within. We don’t believe in going out and seeking one’s truth through another teacher. This is not to say that ministers, teachers and books cannot help us, but we cannot rely totally on them. We have to rely on that one teacher within.
