Visioning Process Printable Script

Creating a clear vision of the most direct, fulfilling, and exciting vocation through which you can express your life purpose creates added fuel to the passion necessary to live in vocational ecstasy. As we fulfill our purpose consistently in the here and now, we are compelled to move forward out of the sheer excitement (which translates to passion) that comes from experiencing others gratitude for receiving our gifts. With a clear vision of the vocation we are moving toward, we a pulled forward by the excitement (which translates to more passion) of living the reality of the vision.

If we perform these two strategies well, we create a pushing forward from our immediate expression and a pulling forward from embracing the vision, which creates a force that cannot be stopped by anything. This visioning process will help bring clarity about your long term vision. Choose a time frame in which you can realistically manifest your vocational vision. It could be 3 years, 5 years, even 10 years.

Realize that this vision must be flexible. Many people resist visioning, because they conjecture that it won’t end up being like the vision, so why bother. Or they don’t want to experience disappointment if it doesn’t happen the way they see it. This vision must be flexible. It will change as you move forward through the steps you take toward its manifestation. It is guaranteed that it won’t be exactly as you see it now. In fact, once you manifest it, it will most likely be better than you can imagine it now.

Choose a direction based on the previous two exercises that you are willing to commit to. Realize that commitment is not just thinking about doing it, or testing the waters, it is an absolute willingness to dedicate your time and resources to moving in the direction of the vision. Choose the direction that most excites you as long as it is reasonably achievable. If you are incapable of walking because of some disability, maybe a world renowned ballet star wouldn’t be that reasonable. But perhaps a world renowned ballet instructor to the stars would be.

Some people in workshops say that they can’t decide what direction to go in or and most often it is because deep down inside (or even right out in front) they don’t really believe they are capable of that degree of magnificence. So feel free to go for something that you may not think is likely (because of self doubt perhaps) but that is reasonably possible and that excites you. People most often think too small. So stretch yourself! You will find it helpful to record this and play it back. Leave lots of time (15 to 30 second) after each question to develop the vision related to the question. You can do the entire meditation and then write down your vision, or feel free to pause, open your eyes, and write ideas as they come.

Meditation

Imagine yourself living your dream and succeeding at the highest level you can imagine at the vocational direction you have chosen. If you are not that visual, simply feel what it would be like to be living your dream. What type of work/play are you doing in this vision? Feel as though you are experiencing this vision in the here and now. Feel all of the feelings associated with its reality and feel the energy in your body.

What is the ideal environment that can best support you fulfilling your purpose in the most effective and joyful means? Do you work in multiple locations or is it just one? How much travel is involved in your vocation? If there are multiple locations, is there a home base, and what does that look and feel like? What are the essential elements in this environment for offering your greatest service?

Who are the people with whom you work or a regular basis? Your peers, or staff, or supporters of any kind? What qualities do these people possess that will help you to fulfill your purpose in the most effective way as a team? Who are the people that you serve? What is your target market? What qualities do they possess? What need to they have that you are fulfilling with your service?

What does an average workweek and workday look and feel like in your vision? What percentage of your time is spent in creative work, product development, working directly with clients, administrative duties, managerial duties, etc.?

What is your ideal net annual income that results from your services and/or products? What is the unit price of each offering? What is the price tag on books or other products? How much do you charge per hour or per job? What is your time worth? How much of your receivables are from passive income—income that does not come as a result of ongoing activity, like books, tapes, internet download products? You don’t have to do the math, just have a general idea of how your services and projects add up to your annual income.

What is the rest of your life like? Is there a balance between work and play? What do you do for fun? Who or what kind of people do you spend your time with when you are not focused on vocation?

Is there anything else important to your vocational vision that has not been addressed? Take some time to focus on any other areas important to your vision. . . .

Now, take a real close look at those whom you serve. Imagine them receiving the benefits of your service. See the expressions on their faces of gratitude for having received your gifts. Feel deep in your heart the appreciation for what you have created and offered to them. See and feel the positive effects that receiving your gifts have in their lives.

Now see these positive effects spreading outward as they share the qualities of what they have received from you with others. Like ripples from a stone in a pond, the gifts receive span outward in all directions touching people in ways that you may never know. Now see this expansion occurring not only in the time period of this vision, but for generations to come. Appreciate the affects of your good work as it is received by future generations, knowing that all of this is possible as a result of your committing to this vision right here and right now!

When you are ready, slowly and gently bring your awareness back to the room. When it is right for you, open your eyes and begin writing the details of your vision.
